The Hematoi descend from the union between gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi (pure blood) have divine powers. The children of a Hematoi and a mortal... well, not so much. The half-bloods have only two options: become disturbing Sentinels that hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the houses of the purebloods. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it cleaning toilets, but she might as well end up living like the poor. There are several rules that Alliance students must follow. Alex has trouble complying with them, but especially with rule number 1: relationships between pures and halfs are prohibited. Unfortunately, she is in love with Aiden, a handsome pureblood. But falling in love with Aiden isn't her biggest problem: staying alive long enough to graduate from the Alliance and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon and being hunted by Aiden. And that would be awful.
